The Roma Peoples Project at Columbia University in collaboration with the General Delegation of the Government of Flanders to the USA, will co-host a book launch of Hidden Tapestry: Jan Yoors, His Two Wives, and the War That Made Them One by Debra Dean. This historical biography examines the work of Flemish author and artist Jan Yoors, one of the first recognized writers to counter stereotypes of Roma with his nuanced portrayals.

Hidden and Real. In two compelling, compassionate and revelatory books Debra Dean (Hidden Tapestry) and Sarah Weinman (The Real Lolita) explore and expose the lives of 1950’s artist Jan Yoors and his bohemian menage, and the scandal of Sally Horner, whose unfortunate life may have been the true life story behind Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita.

GAITHERSBURG, MD: BOOK FESTIVAL

Gaithersburg, for those in the know, is just outside Washington D.C.  I'll be doing a talk with slides in the H.L. Mencken Pavilion, and a book signing afterwards. It all takes place outdoors, with lots of activities, book tables, and food stalls. Make it a weekend field trip!
